Positivity deposits

We’ve all heard the phrase ‘It’s the little things that matter the most.’ To increase love in a relationship, small acts of love that would mean a lot to your partner should be done more often so that your time together is more beautiful and the feeling of positivity towards the relationship and each other increases every day. The author terms these acts as ‘positivity deposits’ and emphasizes on practising these more often.

Validate

Before validating the other in your relationships, be it with your partner or friend, it is important to know what you are feeling and why you are feeling so. After you ascertain the cause, it may come across as ungrateful behavior, but it is always important to validate whatever you feel.

Learn to say ‘No’

Even though love is the most important thing in a relationship, saying no and setting boundaries are equally important, believes Preeti. One cannot always say yes in order to keep things sweet and steady and end up bottling up resentment towards the other or oneself. Lack of boundaries in a relationship is a strict no.

Therapy

Couples therapy is the first thing that comes to mind when one reads the term vis-à-vis relationships. However, in order to have healthy and happy relationships, one needs to be happy as an individual. Solving individual problems is the first step towards achieving happiness as a couple. Her book ‘The Magic Mindest’ enlists exercises that constructively address issues of the self. However, therapy can be taken by anyone at any time, regardless of their situation, says the author.
