Ash gourd or winter melon, in Hindi we call it petha is one of the most widely harvested plants in the Cucurbitaceae family and is used in several international dishes.
This winter vegetable is rich in vitamin C, carotenoids, and flavonoids, and also guards our body cells against cell damage and type 2 Diabetes.
But, little do we know that consuming its juice can make our skin healthy, as it is low in calories, protein, carbohydrates, and fat, and has around 96 percent water. Let’s learn more about its beauty benefits.
The fine hair covering the unripe ash gourd comes with a unique white ash coating. Tasting like cucumber, it has cooling properties that preserve raw energy-boosting properties, and adding a tad of honey in the juice will make our skin glow and keep our body in shape, as its juice has very little amount of fat and carbohydrates, with only hydration properties.
Ash gourd juice is rich in antioxidants and is a great source of vitamin C which is ideal for healthy skin. Vitamin C can be applied on the skin changing the photoaging area. It penetrates deep into the skin’s layers protects the skin from maintaining moisture and improves the blood circulation level which helps in brightening the skin.
Hyperpigmentation is a condition in which the skin becomes darker in some areas than others. The vitamins present in the juice guard against oxidative stress on the skin. The active form of vitamin C present in the juice is absorbed by the skin and it creates fine even skin which reduces the condition of hyperpigmentation of the face.
Take one ash gourd, 6 teaspoons of lemon, 3 teaspoons of salt, and 3 teaspoons of black pepper powder. If you wish you can add honey for a more fine and supple touch.
Cut and remove the skin and the seeds from the ash gourd and then blend it until it comes in a puree form and then strain the mixture. Add salt, lemon juice, and black pepper, mix them all and your healthy drink is ready.
