Mask for dark patches

Skin problems like acne, blemishes, and dark patches may fade away, but by the time they leave, they drop a spot on our confidence. Clear skin that shines like glass is a necessity now more than ever, considering the recent influx of K-beauty in the Indian beauty market. Having trouble with uneven skin tone or obstinate dark patches? Perhaps Mother Nature has the solution. For pigmentation, dullness, and blemishes, a simple overnight paste mixed with turmeric and mulethi (licorice root) may be your gentle, natural solution. Let's examine the reasons this age-old mixture merits a spot in your evening skincare routine.

2/6

Why turmeric and mulethi work

Mulethi, or root of licorice:

This stick-like ingredient is a powerhouse of good nutrients for skin whitening. Mulethi, which is high in glabridin, is useful for lightening sunspots and hyperpigmentation because it inhibits the synthesis of melanin. Additionally, it soothes sensitive skin and reduces inflammation.

Turmeric

Known since ages to cure almost everything, turmeric should hold a spot in your beauty regime too. Curcumin, which has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and brightening effects, is found in the golden spice. Over time, it helps soothe the skin, lightens scars, and enhances complexion.

How to prepare the overnight mulethi-turmeric paste

Components

One teaspoon of mulethi powder (found in Ayurvedic pharmacies)

Half a teaspoon of natural turmeric powder

For sensitive skin, use 1-2 teaspoons of raw milk or rose water.

Directions

Create a smooth paste by combining the powders with your preferred liquid.

Apply it to clean skin, paying particular attention to uneven or dark spots.

If you have sensitive skin, let it on for at least an hour. One may also use it as a leave-in mask overnight.

In the morning, gently rinse with lukewarm water.

Apply sunscreen later in the day for extra protection

4/6

Advantages of its consistent use

Fades acne scars and pigmentation

Balances the tone of the skin

Reduces redness and inflammation

Naturally brightens drab skin

Enhances radiance without using harsh chemicals

5/6

Precautions to remember

Patch testing should always be done before overnight application. Use only ingredients that are pure and free of chemicals. If you have a dairy or turmeric allergy, stay away from this paste. To avoid dryness, use only two or three times each week.

6/6

The takeaway

For decades, Ayurvedic skincare has extolled turmeric and mulethi, and with good cause. This overnight paste might be your new holy grail if you're sick of chemical creams and want a natural way to get better skin.
