Have you adopted charcoal in your beauty regimen, yet?
Charcoal face masks are said to cleanse and exfoliate the skin
If you are keeping up with a regular beauty regimen as you WFH, here’s something you may want to add to your list of scrubs and face packs. Use activated charcoal. That’s right. While it’s used in dry shampoo and toothpaste and Kim Kardashian drinks charcoal lemonade, this by-product of charcoal is increasingly grabbing attention for its ability to bust toxins from the skin. A site reports how Kylie Jenner’s fave mask is one that has charcoal extracts, Shay Mitchell has tried charcoal face masks and back home too, folks are taking to charcoal-based products to rid the skin of impurities and leave it glowing. Charcoal-based products are suited for oily skin
Dermatologist Dr Aakriti Mehra outlines how it works She says, “More than removal of toxins, activated charcoal gives you a deep exfoliation and decreases oil production on the skin. It is more an oily-skin usage product so it helps to decrease sebum production and to unclog pores in a way that that you can’t with the help of a normal face wash. Apart from just being used in beauty products, it’s being used a lot in carbon and charcoal face treatments for the same purpose of giving a deep exfoliation.” She adds, “It’s quite popular with brides as a pre-wedding treatment as there is a bit of brightness that comes in after exfoliation as well as tan removal as the superficial layer has come off. But one has to be careful as one wrong skin it can be abrasive. It gives that squeaky-clean feeling that leads to a skin glow. In summer it’s an apt treatment, more so now, as we have so much mask usage, so you need more exfoliation in this season there is more build-up of sebum and dirt.” Watch out!Charcoal is more suited for oily skin and using a charcoal-infused mask once a week is said to be enough. Check with your dermat before trying it.
