5 ways brides can prevent Haldi reactions on the skin

Identify and manage turmeric allergic reactions

Haldi, or turmeric, is a natural beauty and culinary staple found in nearly every Indian household. Revered for its religious and beauty significance since ancient times, haldi can sometimes trigger allergic reactions. These may include itching, shortness of breath, rashes, hives, and skin swelling. In some cases, individuals may experience anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction to turmeric that requires immediate medical attention.
As brides and grooms apply haldi during their pre-wedding festivities, one should always take these precautions before applying haldi to their face and body. Let’s see 5 ways with which brides can prevent haldi reactions on skin on their big day.

2/6

Start with a patch test

Every natural or manufactured skin applicant should be first tested on a small patch of skin, and then, if suited, should be applied on your face and body. Thus, before applying haldi all over the body during your haldi ceremony, apply a small amount of haldi paste on your inner arm and then wait for 24 hours. If you see no redness, burning sensation, or itching sensation, then it is safe for your skin, and you’re not allergic to it. However, avoid last-minute patch tests.

Never apply haldi alone.

Avoid applying plain turmeric, but mix it with ingredients that calm the skin. You can add a scoop of aloe vera gel for hydration and cooling, drops of rose water for freshness and skin balancing, and teaspoons of mild or yoghurt for a soothing and gentle effect. These natural ingredients help reduce the harshness of plain turmeric and give you a radiant glow immediately.

4/6

Do not leave it on the skin for long.

Never keep haldi on your skin for more than 15 minutes, as it will lead to dryness and skin irritation. Always apply haldi for a short time period to avoid skin sensitivity, also, overuse can lead to excessive dryness and rashes. Always wash it off gently with lukewarm water, and then pat your skin dry and apply a good moisturiser or cooling gel.

5/6

Only use pure organic haldi.

Never opt for manufactured or commercially available haldi powders that are used in our food. They contain artificial colours and chemicals that may irritate the skin. Therefore, choose pure and organic turmeric for your haldi ceremony, as it reduces the risk of irritation and makes sure that the skin gets the best natural benefits at the same time. For organic turmeric as well, start with a patch test.

Consult a skincare expert before your haldi ceremony.

Always visit your dermatologist or a skincare expert and check if you have a history of haldi allergy or a sensitive skin condition. If they recommend you for any pre-bridal skincare treatments to prepare your skin before your wedding festivities, then do so and maintain the strict skincare routine they have asked you to follow.
