4 homemade hair oils for different hair types
Nourishing coconut-almond oil for dry hair
This oil is great for dry, brittle, or heat-damaged hair. Coconut oil penetrates the hair shaft to hydrate from within, while almond oil adds softness and shine. Lavender helps soothe dry scalps.Ingredients:
3 tbsp coconut oil
2 tbsp almond oil
5 drops lavender essential oil (optional)
Mix the oils in a glass bottle. Warm slightly before applying from scalp to tips. Leave on for 1–2 hours or overnight, then wash with a gentle shampoo.
Light neem-tea tree oil for oily scalp and dandruff
Try this neem-tee tree oil to curb oily, greasy scalp with dandruff or buildup. Neem and tea tree oil have anti-fungal and antibacterial properties that fight dandruff, while sesame oil is light and doesn't clog pores.
Ingredients:
3 tbsp sesame oil or grapeseed oil
1 tsp neem oil
4–5 drops tea tree oil
How to make and use:
Blend all ingredients well. Apply mainly on the scalp and massage gently. Leave for 30–60 minutes before rinsing.
Castor-fenugreek oil for thin or weak hair
This hair oil works wonders on thinning hair or hair prone to breakage. Castor oil promotes hair growth and thickness, while fenugreek strengthens roots and prevents hair fall.Ingredients:
2 tbsp castor oil
2 tbsp coconut oil
1 tbsp fenugreek (methi) seeds
How to make and use:
Soak fenugreek seeds in coconut oil overnight. Heat gently the next day with castor oil, let it cool, strain, and store. Use 2–3 times a week.
Argan-jojoba oil for frizzy or curly hair
Curly, frizzy, or unmanageable hair can be tamed nicely when you use this amazing hair oil. Argan oil smoothens frizz and adds shine, jojoba mimics natural sebum and hydrates curls, while aloe vera tames flyaways.Ingredients:
2 tbsp argan oil
2 tbsp jojoba oil
1 tsp aloe vera gel (optional)
How to make and use:
Mix well and apply on damp or dry hair as a leave-in serum or pre-shampoo oil treatment.
Tips for best results:
Always do a patch test, especially when using essential oils. Use glass containers to store oils and keep them away from direct sunlight. Consistency is key: apply at least once a week for visible improvements.
