Thinking laterally has always been designer Rocky S’s USP.

Not content with merely dressing up people with his ensembles, Rocky prefers to look at the bigger picture — accessories, home linen and even fragrance, which by the way earned him the distinction of being the first Indian designer to launch a signature fragrance.
Now, with another first of firsts up his sleeve, Rocky is all set to join the ranks of international labels like Tommy Hilfiger, Donna Karan, Ralph Lauren and Gucci Baby with his very own line of children’s wear that he will debut at the Lakme Fashion Week (LFW).
Interestingly, this will also be the first time that kids will be walking the ramp at the LFW in a kids only show!
“I am very excited about my new kids line called ‘Rocky S Kids’ that I am doing for a kids wear brand. The collection is very fun and compliments children’s natural style and innate attitude. It will cater to children in the age group of five to 15 and will have a lot of options in terms of colours and styles,” elaborates Rocky.

“I have always thought of myself as a multi-faceted designer who will never limit himself or his creativity and I think that designing for kids is so fun and challenging,” says Rocky, who adds that one has to be very careful when designing for kids.
“There is a very fine line between giving them stylish clothes and making them look like clones of adults. Which is why I have been working at the line for quite a while and I can’t wait for it to be out.”
But in the past designers like Alexander Julian, Liz Claiborne and Calvin Klein, have tried their hand at kids’ wear, but have since called it quits.
How does Rocky plan to sustain his kids line? “By listening to what they want!” he laughs. “Today’s kids are so clued into what they wear which are influenced by so many factors from superheroes to Bollywood. My nephew and niece are also a great source of inspiration to me.”
