Infosys hit by virus, recovers

BANGALORE: An unknown virus hit Infosys' network on Tuesday bringing the IT giant to a halt.

<div class="section1"><div class="Normal"><span style="" font-family:="" arial="" font-size:="">BANGALORE: Software giant Infosys Technologies was hit by a virus early on Tuesday, but quickly took preventive measures to contain the damage. Its network was up by afternoon. </span><br /><br /><span style="" font-family:="" arial="" font-size:="">The company did not disclose the nature of the virus.
</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-family:="" arial="" font-size:="">The virus had affected sections of its development centres in the country, following which the company shut down parts of its network and implemented virus-control measures. </span><br /><br /><span style="" font-family:="" arial="" font-size:="">The situation left many Infoscions without anything to do for several hours as they waited for the network to become operational. They, however, swung back into action the moment the network was restored. </span><br /><span style="" font-family:="" arial="" font-size:=""> </span><br /><span style="" font-family:="" arial="" font-size:="">A company spokesperson said only a few machines in some locations were brought down for implementing the virus-control measures. She said the situation was normal. </span><br /><br /><span style="" font-family:="" arial="" font-size:="">The company spokesperson said the network operations were restored by the afternoon and the situation was normal. </span><br /><br /><span style="" font-family:="" arial="" font-size:="">Confirming this, an Infosys spokesperson said, "As part of preventive measures, we have brought the network down to protect ourselves from the virus spreading. Virus control measures are being implemented and we hope the situation will normalise in a short while."</span></div> </div>
