NEW DELHI: A court in Punjab's Mohali on Friday convicted self-proclaimed Christian pastor
Bajinder Singh, commonly referred to as 'Yeshu Yeshu prophet,' in a sexual harassment case from 2018.
The verdict came days after Singh, 42, appeared in court along with six other accused following the issuance of non-bailable warrants against them in the matter.
The case dates back to 2017. The complainant, a woman from Zirakpur, Punjab, said that she began attending Singh's church with her family in October that year.
The woman claimed that the pastor obtained her mobile number and initiated "unwanted text communication." She added that she remained silent about the ordeal due to her "fear" of Singh.
However, she later filed sexual harassment charges against Singh. In July 2018, the pastor was apprehended at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport while attempting to board a flight to London.
Singh has previously faced multiple legal issues.
A separate sexual harassment case was registered against the self-proclaimed pastor on February 28, following accusations from a 22-year-old woman.
The complainant alleged that in 2022, the pastor would isolate her in a church cabin on Sundays, where he inappropriately touched and embraced her. She also claimed he threatened to harm her family if she filed a complaint.
Recently, a video surfaced showing a man, believed to be Singh, slapping a man and a woman in a room resembling an office. The video was sent to a special investigation team, led by Phagwara SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti, by the complainant in the second case.
However, Bhatti clarified that the video did not pertain to her case and was under verification.
