World Covid-19 numbers: Where India stands with over 2 crore confirmed cases

World Covid-19 numbers: Where India stands with over 2 crore confirmed cases
NEW DELHI: India crossed the 20 million cases mark on Monday, becoming only the second nation to do so after the US.
The country reported 3,55,998 new cases on Monday, taking the overall case count past the 2 crore mark to 2,02,74,921. Only the US, with more than 3.3 crore cases so far, has recorded a higher count. Brazil is at the third spot with fewer than 1.5 crore cases.
The devastating magnitude of the second wave of coronavirus can be gauged from the fact that a quarter of the total cases in the country since the start of the pandemic were reported in the last 16 days.
1x1 polls

India now contributes nearly 13% of the total cases reported in the world since the start of the pandemic. Interestingly, during the first wave of the virus, India was contributing nearly 18% of the total cases.
This indicates that the number of cummulative cases across the world have been steadily rising as the pandemic progresses. India, despite the recent surge, constitute a relatively smaller percentage of the cases than it reported during the first wave.

India contributed nearly 46% of the daily cases reported across the world on May 4. This is the highest percentage share of the total world's cases contributed by a single country.

The month of April has been particularly devastating. In April, nearly 21% of the total cases reported across the world were from India. In March, India had reported 6% of the total cases in the world.
