‘Witness’ to murder of Cong councillor found hanging in Bengal
JHALDA (PURULIA): A “witness” to Congress councillor Tapan Kandu’s murder was found hanging on Wednesday morning in Jhalda in Bengal’s Purulia district, reports Amit Singh Deo. Jhalda police recovered the body of Niranjan Baishnab from his home. Niranjan allegedly left a “suicide note” saying he couldn’t take pressure from the police anymore. “I can’t forget what I saw.

Kandu’s widow Purnima Kandu saw a “mystery” in Niranjan’s death. “Niranjan had gone out with my husband for a walk the day he was murdered. He might have witnessed the murder,” she said. Niranjan’s family alleged that police would come to their house late at night. His neighbours said that he often stayed away from his house at night.
