Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus-led interim government in Bangladesh — a motley assortment of retired bureaucrats, civil society members and student activists — was sworn in on August 8 and it’s expected to run the country till elections can be held.

The Khaleda-Zia led Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), which is expected to emerge as a dominant political force after the departure of deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is pressing for elections in the next 3-6 months, but has also said it will allow the interim government time to create a conducive environment for polls.
