We look up to supeheroes to help us fight evil, but seldom do we imagine superheroes as those who will make the world better to live in

The human need for superheroes is clearly at an all-time high. Hollywood seems to be bereft of imagination outside of this genre. We started with sequels; now we have prequels, an interconnected universe where superheroes come together, die, and get resurrected. In short, we find ways of regurgitating stories about these superheroes in as many ways as possible.

Why do superheroes not invent cures for cancer or stop starvation? Why don’t they use their abilities to solve real problems? As Umberto Eco argues in his essay "The Myth of Superman," all Superman used his massive, almost omnipotent powers for was to intervene in local events like bank robberies and train mishaps. Even today, while the superhero genre has become far more sophisticated, the focus continues to be on combating evil rather than creating a better world.
