With the city set to see the launch of a new record-breaking skyscraper, Lokhandwala Minerva, at 299.9 metres, and several more under construction — a deep dive into why Mumbai has an enormous skyline, unlike any other in the country

The race to meet the skies has begun in the country. In Mumbai, Lokhandwala Minerva, a 299.9-metre-tall tower, is fast inching towards completion. So is Supernova Spira, a 300-metre-tall skyscraper, which is coming up in Noida in the Delhi-NCR region. The two buildings are set to break the record of World One in Mumbai — the tallest, so far, in India — at 280.2 metres.

Lokhandwala Minerva, a 299.9-metre-tall tower, will soon become Mumbai's tallest skyscraper
While Delhi-NCR seems set to beat Mumbai to the tallest building record by a tiny margin, Mumbai is leading in this scramble to reach the skies with Indiabulls Sky Forest (281 metres), Piramal Aranya (280.7 metres) and Sesen (270 metres), among others. And even though Gurgaon has Raheja Revanta at 195.8 metres, and Noida has the North Eye at 255 metres, these cities are nowhere close to the number of skyscrapers Mumbai boasts of.
