It's not the weatherman who's getting it wrong. The heat index explains why there's a difference between actual and relative temperatures

NEW DELHI: There's been no respite from the sweltering heat for days now, and if you're staying in the Delhi-NCR region, it's likely you've taken a peek at your phone screen to check the temperature outside.

Now, your app shows 38 degrees Celsius — but there's a small box next to the temperature cautioning that it "Feels like 43 degrees”. The warning seems fair — it does seem far less comfortable than 38 degrees. So what makes the temperature feel like 43? The answer is the heat index, which factors in relative humidity and dew point, among other parameters, to tell you what the day’s weather actually feels like.
