Who is Uma Bharti ?
Uma Bharti currently serves as India's minister for drinking Water and sanitation in the central government and is occassionaly addressed by the Hindu honorific 'Sādhvī', a respectful Sanskrit title for a female renunciant. She started her political career with the Bharatiya Janata Party and conested her first parliamentary election in 1984 which she lost. She won for the first time in 1989 from Khajuraho, a seat that she then retained thrice in 1991, 1996 and 1998 until she switched her constiuency to Bhopal in 1999.She held various portfolios during the term of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee. She took lead of the Ganga rejuvenation project after taking office under PM Narendra Modi but was removed from the post of the minister for water resources and river development.Born 3 May 1959, in Dunda,

in Madhya Pradesh in a family of peasants. She attended school only till sixth grade.
