Who is Jaya Bachchan

Jaya Bhaduri Bachchan is currently the member of parliament in Rajya Sabha from the Samajwadi Party. She started her political career in 2004 when she was elected to the Rajya Sabha, a position that she has continued to maintain since. Her first term ended early in 2006, second lasted till 2010 and third term in Rajya Sabha began in 2012. She was again re-elected to the upper house in 2018 from Samajwadi party ticket. She was awarded the Padma Shri in 1992, the highest civilian award given by the government of India. Before politics, Bachchan had earned fame as a successful Bollywood actress and also given the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. Born as Jaya Bhaduri on 9 April 1948, is an alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India, and started her film career at the age of 15 with a supporting role in Satyajit Ray's Bengali film, Mahanagar(1963).On 3 June 1973, she married actor Amitabh Bachchan and has two children, Shweta Bachchan-Nanda and Abhishek Bachchan.
