Who says babus are boring? Meet a few new-generation IAS officers who not only realise the power of social media but are actively harnessing it to showcase their work. These enterprising young civil servants, mainly those who are serving as district magistrates or are in positions of authority in a district, have YouTube channels featuring zanily edited videos of their work. Many of them have millions of subscribers, mainly youngsters who aspire to reach their position.
When district magistrate is a hit on social media
Among the more popular of these young officers is Deepak Rawat who is from the Uttarakhand cadre. Rawat, till recently, was the district magistrate (DM) of Haridwar and is currently overseeing preparations for the Maha Kumbh Mela 2021 as the Mela Officer.
