Bad roads, inept traffic rules, shoddy enforcement and dangerous driving have made road accidents one of the biggest killers in India.
NEW DELHI: The Parliament approved the amendments in Motor Vehicles Act on August 5, with several provisions for improving road safety, improving citizens’ dealings with the transport department, strengthening rural transport, automation and enabling online services.
The new Bill has special focus on tougher penalties which includes higher fines, jail term, suspension of licences and cancellation of registration for major traffic violations.
