Why India-China troop clashes are more frequent

Like in Galwan, Beijing probably wants to again attempt to change LAC status quo by force

News has been filtering out of a non-lethal but serious clash between Indian and Chinese troops at Yangtse near Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh. Ordinary Indians are once again asking themselves the question – what does China want?

  • Are we building up to another Galwan-like situation of June 2020 that had resulted in the loss of life on both sides?
  • Are India-China relations headed for an even steeper decline than that already experienced over the past two years?

All very relevant questions. They need to be addressed coolly and rationally rather than with any kind of knee-jerk reaction. The facts have to be woven in with assessments of what instructions each side’s military officers have been given by their respective political leadership.
