West Bengal: TMC slams BJP MP after video shows him 'kissing' woman during campaign
NEW DELHI: BJP MP Khagen Murmu landed in a controversy after a video from his West Bengal campaign for Lok Sabha elections showed him kissing a woman on her cheeks.
The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) was quick to react and slammed the saffron party, sharing screenshots from the viral video and accusing BJP leaders of being anti-women.
TMC wrote on X, "If you cannot believe what you just saw, let us clarify. Yes, this is BJP MP & Maldaha Uttar candidate Khagen Murmu kissing a woman on his own accord on his campaign trail."
"From MPs that sexually harass women wrestlers to leaders who make obscene songs about Bengali women, BJP camp has no dearth of anti-women politicians. This is how Modi Ka Parivar engages in Nari Ka Samman! Imagine what they would do if they came to power," TMC wrote.
TMC's attack was in reference with former wrestling body chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, a BJP MP accused of sexual assault by women wrestlers, and Pawan Singh, a former BJP candidate from Asansol who withdrew from the contest after criticism of his songs allegedly containing objectionable references to Bengali women.
