Why being Mughal is not synonymous with being Indian

The Mughal Gardens in Rashtrapati Bhavan have been renamed Amrit Udyan, presumably to commemorate the 25-year journey—the Amrit Kaal—of India from now to the centenary of independence in 2047. Apart from a few snarky comments, mainly on social media, about Kolkata’s famed Mughlai Paratha being likewise renamed, the change has not generated any significant controversy.
Certainly, compared to a few years ago when Aurangzeb Road in the heart of Lutyens’ Delhi was renamed after former President APJ Abdul Kalam, the opposition was even more feeble.
