Watch: Colonel Sofiya Qureshi's family showers flower petals at PM Modi in Vadodara

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his two-day Gujarat visit with a roadshow in Vadodara on Monday, as a large crowd gathered on both sides of the road to greet him.

Among the crowd was the family of Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, an Army officer from Vadodara. They were seen showering flower petals at PM Modi, a former chief minister of Gujarat.


Colonel Qureshi's sister Shayna Sunsara told news agency ANI, "We felt good meeting PM Modi. He has done a lot for women's empowerment. Sofiya is my twin. When your sister does something for the country, it inspires not only me but others as well. She is no longer just my sister but the country's sister as well."


The army officer was the face of the government's daily briefings, along with foreign secretary Vikram Misri and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh of the Air Force, on India's "Operation Sindoor".

On May 7, Indian armed forces conducted Operation Sindoor, targeting nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in retaliation to the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22.

This triggered a military confrontation with Pakistan. On May 10, New Delhi accepted Islamabad's ceasefire request, which came after the Indian Air Force destroyed 11 of the neighbouring nation's 12 airbases.

This is PM Modi's first visit to his home state since Operation Sindoor, On the first day, will inaugurate multiple development projects in Dahod and Bhuj, and will be in state capital Gandhinagar on Tuesday.
