NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party MP Aprajita Sarangi on Friday gifted Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra a bag with a '1984' printed on it, alluding to the anti-Sikh riots following Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's assassination.

In a video, Sarangi was seen handing out the bag to Priyanka, which she accepted and continued walking ahead.

This comes a day after the confrontation in Parliament over Ambedkar took an ugly turn, where BJP and Congress MPs clashed at the new Parliament's entrance.

Two BJP MPs Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput sustained head injuries, with both parties alleging that Rahul Gandhi pushed through BJP members at Makar Dwar. Subsequently, both sides lodged complaints, and the Lok Sabha Speaker prohibited demonstrations at Parliament gates.

Last week, Priyanka was seen carrying bags supporting Palestine and Bangladeshi minorities, prompting BJP criticism labelling it as "appeasement".

BJP's IT cell chief Amit Malviya criticised Priyanka, stating she was "a bigger disaster than Rahul Gandhi". He posted on X that Congress had become the "New Muslim League", suggesting their actions were communal gestures towards Muslims disguised as anti-patriarchy statements.

Priyanka Gandhi responded by saying that the criticism was "typical patriarchy" where she was "being told what to wear and what not to wear".

"Who is going to decide what clothes I will wear now. That is typical patriarchy that you decide what clothes women wear. I don't subscribe to it. I will wear what I want to."

BJP's Sambit Patra also hit out at Priyanka Gandhi, saying "The Gandhi family has always been carrying the bag of appeasement".

"The appeasement bag is the reason for their losses in elections," Sambit Patra said during a press briefing at the national capital.
