War memorial salute for IAF officer killed by Yasin

NEW DELHI: The

IAF

has approved the case for the name of

Squadron Leader

Ravi Khanna, who along with three others was allegedly killed by the separatist leader

Yasin Malik

on the outskirts of Srinagar in January 1990, to be included on the walls of the National War Memorial (NWM).

"The name of Squadron Leader Ravi Khanna was missing from the list of IAF personnel who had laid down their lives for the nation, enshrined in the NWM.

The case for including his name in the list was cleared late last month after his wife Nirmal Khanna suggested it be done," said an official.

The NWM, which was inaugurated in February, honours around 26,000 military personnel who have made the supreme sacrifice in wars and operations since the Independence.

Each service provides a list of names to be engraved on the walls of the NWM after the requisite approvals.

Yasin Malik, who is currently lodged in

Tihar Jail

after being arrested in a terror funding case by the NIA, was chargesheeted for the murder of Squadron Leader Khanna and the others by the CBI in August 1990 but the case has been stuck for almost 30 years.
