NEW DELHI: Union coal and mines minister Shibu Soren hasn''t been seen in public for four days. On Wednesday, he failed to turn up in Rajya Sabha, where he was to take questions. The Opposition forced an adjournment, but there was no official word on Soren''s location.
A team from Jharkhand police seeking to arrest him in pursuance of a warrant for his role in a 30-year-old case did the rounds in the Capital.
But with the home ministry
itself unable to say anything about Soren, it was unlikely that the detachment from Ranchi would be able to lay their hands on the missing minister.
For its part, the police team from Ranchi visited Soren''s house, pasted a copy of the arrest warrant outside and met Delhi Police Commissioner K K Paul. There was even a rumour that the minister was "surrendering" in the city, but the teams of both Delhi and Jharkhand police did not find any trace of Soren. With the government mum, it was left to Congress to defend him with party spokesman Anand Sharma stating the warrant "did not make Soren a convict."
