BHOPAL: First FIR filed in Vyapam scam by CBI against former BJP leader and member of Madhya Pradesh Backward Classes and Minorities Commission Gulab Singh Kirar and his son is proving to be a headache for the central probe agency, as it received little evidence to substantiate the crime by father-son duo. CBI had filed the FIR on basis of investigations conducted by special investigation team (SIT) of Gwalior police.

"Agency collected documents from SIT and the FIR was lodged on the basis of a complainant, but this won't help. We have to collect significant proof against them to file a charge-sheet. We didn't find much with SIT so far," said a CBI officer. He said the case has to be reworked.
CBI Inspector Harish Goyal has collected the case diary, said sources. He had a formal discussion with the complainant Ashish Chaturvedi on this matter. "CBI officers want more evidence against them and I am trying to help them," Chaturvedi told TOI.
Initiating its probe into Vyapam scam, CBI had registered FIRs in two cases related to rigging of examinations, naming among others Gulab Singh Kirar and his son Shakti on July 16. FIRs have been registered in connection with the Pre-Medical Test of 2010 and the pre-PG Examination 2011.
Gulab Singh Kirar, Shakti Singh Kirar, Sudhir Bhadauria and Pankaj Trivedi, both former controllers of examination with Vyapam were booked by Gwalior SIT.
On June 30, SIT of Gwalior police declared a cash award of Rs 3,000 for clue leading to arrest of Shakti Singh Kirar. He was placed second in the merit list. Police recently arrested Naveen Sharma, a mediator, who allegedly fixed his admission. It is alleged Gulab Singh paid Rs 30 lakh to scam accused Gaurav Bhadoria through Naveen Sharma. Bhadoria forwarded cash to one Brijmohan, a contractual employee at MPPEB, who then passed it on to then exam controller of the board.

Sharma kept Rs 5 lakh as commission. He told interrogators he donated cash at a revered shrine in Chambal region. Gulab Singh and his son Shakti were booked for cheating by impersonation, forgery and criminal conspiracy. Complainant Chaturvedi claims, Shakti actually studied for a BDS degree to become a dentist from a medical college outside the state.
He later pursued an MBBS degree at a private medical college. But because of his father's influence over MPPEB officials, he managed to top the pre-PG in 2011.
