AGRA: Widows from Mathura would present 1,500 special rakhis to Prime Minister
Narendra Modi on Monday.
The rakhis carrying colourful photograph of
Modi have been designed and crafted by a group of old widows living in Meera Sahabhagini ashram in Vrindavan. According to Vice President of Sulabh International, Vinita Verma, ten widows would go to Delhi to present baskets of sweets and rakhis to their 'brother' Modi on the occasion of
Raksha Bandhan.
Meanwhile, continuing to defy age-old traditions of leading a secluded life, hundreds of aged widows living in various ashrams on Sunday celebrated Rakhsha Bandhan at the historic Gopinath Temple, where
rakhi baskets for the PM were packed. Rakhis were also tied on the wrist of Sulabh International founder, Dr Bindeshwar Pathak. The organisation looks after a thousand widows in Vrindavan.
Vinita Verma said that they had received permission for five widows to tie rakhi to PM Modi. She said these would include 94-year-old Manu Ghosh, who is very excited about it. She said Manu had handmade the rakhi for Modi.
