'Visit these areas and see the hellish conditions': LG slams Delhi govt after ground visits; Kejriwal says 'thanks'

NEW DELHI: Delhi's lieutenant governor VK Saxena on Sunday pointed out the 'hellish living condition' inside the national capital and urged the AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal and chief minister Atishi to take necessary steps to fix the problems.

Taking to X, Saxena shared a video of his visit Rangpuri Pahari in south Delhi and Kapashera in southwest Delhi and said that the residents complained about the frequent power cuts and stinking water logged in the alleys and streets.

"The stinking water accumulated in the alleys and streets is not rainwater, but from overflowing sewers. The women narrating their problems are from Delhi, not any other state," Saxena said.


"Residents of the area complained of inadequate power supply, irregular water supply and poor garbage disposal. Many residents complained of 8-10 hour power cuts daily and showed high electricity bills despite the Delhi government's claims of providing free power," he added.

Saxena also said that he assured the residents of the area of a cleanliness drive and which he will personally monitor.

"I have assured of a cleanliness drive starting tomorrow. And I will personally monitor these efforts so that it can be ensured that the residents at least get basic services," he said.

"I urge the former chief minister, chief minister and ministers concerned of the Delhi government to visit these areas and see the hellish conditions. They must take immediate steps to improve this pitiable state of affairs. Let's come together and make Delhi great again," he added.

Responding to Saxena, Kejriwal thanked the lieutenant governor for pointing out government's shortcoming and said that government will get the area cleaned at the earliest.

Speaking to the reporters, Kejriwal said, "I thank the Lieutenant Governor from the bottom of my heart. We will address all the shortcomings he has identified. He went to Nangloi-Mundka road and pointed to potholes, we are getting that road fixed. We will get the areas he visited today cleaned.

"I urge him to point out the shortcomings, we will resolve them," he added.

This comes amid the ongoing campaign of Aam Aadmi Party showcasing the achievements of its government in the past ten years. Arvind Kejriwal-led party claimed to have revamped the government schools and mohalla clinics in the national capital in its tenure.

Meanwhile, BJP accused AAP of turning a blind eye towards sanitation issues of the national capital.
