‘Virat victory’: Political leaders hail Team India’s triumph over Pakistan in Champions Trophy 2025

NEW DELHI: Political leaders across party lines congratulated Team India on Sunday after its six-wicket victory over Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Union home minister Amit Shah called it an “electrifying performance,” while BJP President J.P. Nadda lauded Virat Kohli’s century, saying the match was a “perfect example of teamwork.”

Union sports minister Mansukh Mandaviya hailed Kohli for becoming the fastest to reach 14,000 ODI runs. “A great all-round performance by the team,” he wrote on X.

Chief ministers, including Yogi Adityanath, MK Stalin, Mamata Banerjee, and N Chandrababu Naidu, joined in, celebrating the win as a moment of national pride. Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma also praised Kohli’s leadership.

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge highlighted the team’s resilience, with Kharge specifically commending Kohli and Kuldeep Yadav for their contributions.

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta and Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde credited the win to India’s strong teamwork, while Rajasthan Home Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar called it a “Virat victory.”

The match saw India successfully chase 242, with Kohli’s century leading the charge. The team now looks ahead to its upcoming matches in the tournament.
