According to a police officer, the incident took place on Saturday at about 7.45 pm near the Ber Sarai traffic signal close to Vedant Deshika Marg.

"The injuries sustained by ASI Pramod and Head Constable Sailesh were reported to be minor. But the intention was to kill them. A case under attempt to murder and obstruction in discharge of official duty and charges for endangering the lives of public has been registered," the officer added.

The video circulating on social media platforms showed the vehicle dragging both traffic police officers, who were gripping the vehicle's bonnet, before the driver escaped from the scene.

One of the police officers stumbled to the ground when the driver applied brakes and attempted to strike him.

"A PCR call was received at the Kishan Garh police station stating that an unknown vehicle had hit traffic officers on duty and fled the scene," said the officer.

The authorities dispatched a team immediately to investigate. Upon arrival, they learned that a PCR van had already transported the injured officers to Safdarjung Hospital. At the hospital, the team found Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI) Pramod and Head Constable Sailesh Chouhan conscious and in stable condition, the officer continued.

The police personnel had said that they were performing routine traffic violation checks when a vehicle disregarded the red signal. When Sailesh indicated for the vehicle to halt, the driver initially stopped but then suddenly attempted to escape, pulling both officers along for about 20 metres before departing at high speed, the officer explained.

The authorities confirmed they have identified the vehicle's owner and expect to make an arrest shortly.

A criminal case has been initiated against him for endangering traffic officers by dragging them with their vehicle whilst breaching traffic regulations. The charges have been filed under sections 109(1)/221/132/121(1)/3(5) BNS.

Delhi Police authorities have categorised this as a grave offence, with traffic police stating that the driver's irresponsible behaviour constituted a threat to their lives.
