Sharing the video on X, the Madhya Pradesh unit of Congress hit out at the state government saying, "This is the power of authority...look at the threat of the BJP councillor...a uniformed man had to tear his uniform!"

"The level of policing in the state has reached zero! Crime is out of control, criminals are fearless and the police is helpless at some places and under pressure at others," MP Congress wrote on X.

The party said that the video was from Baidhan police station of Singrauli "where a policeman got so upset due to the pressure of BJP councilor that he tore his uniform! That means both the condition and direction of the Home Department have deteriorated under the influence of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav! How will the public get justice, when the police itself has to tear its uniform!"

News agency PTI, however, reported that the police authorities said the video was of February and action was already taken against assistant sub inspector Vinod Mishra.

Additional Superintendent of Police Shiv Kumar Verma said an investigation into the February video was initiated by the former SP Yousuf Qureshi. Following the submission of the probe report, the current SP Nivedita Gupta took disciplinary action against Mishra by ordering the suspension of his annual increment.

Arjun Gupta, the spouse of BJP corporator Gauri Gupta told PTI that the disagreement stemmed from the construction of a drain, and he had merely cautioned Mishra that he would tear off his uniform if he persisted in his agitated state.

Mishra himself recounted the incident, stating that Gupta had threatened to tear off his clothes and have him dismissed from service in the presence of police station in-charge. Feeling humiliated, Mishra admitted to removing his uniform in response to the situation. "I should not have reacted like this," Mishra sad.
