PHQ spokesperson IG Nilesh Bharne in a media briefing said, "Abdul Malik has been arrested from Delhi (in the case of violence that took place on February 8 in Banbhoolpura, Haldwani). The Nainital Police team is carrying the investigation further. Soon they will produce him in court."

Previously a look out notice was issued for Abdul Malik and his son Abdul Moid, while five more rioters were arrested.

The violence erupted on February 8 when locals in the Banbhoolpura area started hurling stones and petrol bombs at municipal workers and police in protest against the demolition of an illegally constructed madrassa.
