Nainital forest fire: Efforts intensified to douse blaze in many parts of Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami assessed the situation by conducting an aerial survey of the areas affected by the fire and also held a review meeting. Human activity is the primary cause of over 90% of fires, with locals often intentionally setting fire to grasslands to clear land for agriculture or encourage fresh growth for grazing animals. Natural factors also contribute to forest fires. Lightning strikes, particularly in remote areas, can serve as ignition sources. Furthermore, shifts in climate patterns resulting in hotter and drier weather have exacerbated the prevalence of forest fires.
