etawah: tension prevailed in bharthana assembly constituency of this district following a clash between bjp and samajwadi party (sp) supporters at baihawa village on sunday. during an election meeting of akhilesh singh yadav, mp and son of sp chief mulayam singh yadav, supporters of bjp leader ajay yadav shouted anti-mulayam slogans and allegedly opened fire in the air.

in the ensuing clash, both the groups indulged in heavy brick-batting in which at least 12 people were injured. akhilesh yadav was escorted to safety by his supporters. ajay yadav is the son of former union minister balram singh yadav, who was expelled from the sp a few months ago for his anti-party activities and open criticism of mulayam. both the bjp and sp had lodged firs, and police have been deployed in the area as a precautionary measure. the situation was under control now, police said.
