BAREILLY: Following the directive of the Allahabad High Court, the Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday withdrew security given to its leaders facing criminal charges. Police gunners assigned to former MLA Islam Sabir, party candidate from Aonla, Sarvaraj Singh and Nawabgunj town committee chairman Shehla Tahir were withdrawn on Tuesday by the local administration.
Talking to TOI, Bareilly SP (City) Rajeev Malhotra said, “The development comes in the wake of the court order which has to be obeyed in the right earnest.” SP leader Islam Sabir confirmed the development and said his security was withdrawn on Tuesday. The court order comes in the wake of a public interest litigation filed by a social activist and wife of a serving IPS officer and has brought into focus leaders with tainted background.
While Islam Sabir has two criminal cases pending against him, Sarvaraj Singh also has an equal number of cases against him. On the other hand chairman, Shehla Tahir has four criminal cases pending against her which means all the above three would not be entitled to police security until they are absolved of criminal charges by the court.
