AGRA: A 25-year-old woman, wife of a daily-wager, who was allegedly unable to pay a "bribe of Rs 1,000" and thereafter denied admission to a local community health centre (CHC), was forced to deliver her baby on the road in Iglas area of Aligarh district.
Several women, including passersby, came to the aid of the woman, Suman Devi, and covered her with a sari after which she gave birth to a baby boy. A video of the entire incident has gone viral on social media.
The woman's husband, Bablu Singh, 30, alleged that the CHC staff had demanded a Rs 1,000 bribe to admit Devi.
Rohit Bhatti, the in-charge of Iglas CHC, said on Saturday, "An investigation is currently underway. Officials from the district head office visited the CHC. The statements of the nurses have been recorded by a probe team. The woman has been referred to a medical college and the baby is in stable condition."
