akeel ahmed and mohammad rashid, both residents of magnartop, from where the victims hailed, were taken into custody by the police fromtheir houses on thursday night following investigations, the police said.the house of akeel ahmed, who was a hitman of lashkar, had been made as ahideout for chalking out a strategy and providing shelter to commanders of theoutfit, they said. however, the nearby house of one village defencecommittee (vdc) member had upset their plans. the militants then hatched asinister plan and eliminated baldev raj and his five family members andrelations by firing on them on december 31, 2001. police have registered acase against akeel ahmed and mohammad rashid and they were produced in chiefjudicial magistrate''s court on friday, they said. the duo have beenremanded to seven days police custody. efforts were also being made to apprehendtheir four other associates, who were involved in the killings, they said.
