TTE urinates on woman in train, removed from service, arrested

NEW DELHI/ LUCKNOW: A TTE who was removed from service on Tuesday for urinating on a woman passenger was not on duty at the time of the incident and was travelling to Saharanpur, where he was posted.

The victim’s husband, a deputy station superintendent in the railways, alleged Munna Kumar, the accused, was drunk when he peed on the victim’s head. Both were in coach number A1.

Kumar, who was caught by fellow passengers after he committed the offence, was remanded in judicial custody. He has been booked under IPC Sections 352 (use of criminal force), 354A (physical contactand advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures) and 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman).

The Northern Railway, in its removal order, said the ticket checker’s conduct “construes a serious misconduct not only to your own self but entire railways as an organisation” and was “unbecoming of a railway servant”.

The spokesperson of NR’s Ambala division said the accused had been serving in the railways for nearly 15 years.

Sanjeev Kumar Sinha, circle officer of Lucknow division GRP, said that during the initial questioning, Munna admitted to have committed the act. “Now we will contact the victim and her husband to take down their statements in order to ascertain the sequence of events,” he added.
