Tripura celebrates Independence and National Day of Bangladesh

Agartala's Assistant High Commission celebrated the 54th Independence and National Day of Bangladesh, commemorating the heroic struggle and the Liberation War against West Pakistan, including observing Massacre Day, paying tribute to Bangabandhu, hoisting the national flag, and messages from leaders.

AGARTALA: The Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala on Tuesday celebrated 54th Independence and National Day of Bangladesh with multiple programs here to respect the heroic struggle of the nation and commemorate the history of the Liberation War against West Pakistan.
Earlier, on Monday night, the officials observed Massacre Day in the Assistant High Commission complex switching off all the lights and lighting candles protesting the mass killing of hundreds of Hindus by the Pakistani Army in Dhaka University and several other places in East Pakistan ahead of attaining liberation.

As part of the celebration, the Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh here Arif Mohammed hoisted the country’s national flag followed by offering a tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahaman and his family members along with others who sacrificed their lives to liberate the country from the Pakistani clutches.
A special prayer was organized for the national well-being of Bangladesh followed by the commemoration of the martyrs and reading out of the messages of the President, and Prime Minister of the country, said First Secretary in the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission Md Al Amin in a statement adding that a seminar on the Bangladesh Liberation War in the evening with the intellectuals and scholars of both Tripura and Bangladesh followed by a cultural event.
In the 1970 Pakistani general election, under the military government Awami League, led by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, won a clear majority in East Pakistan national seats as well as the provincial assembly but Zulfikar Ali Bhutto conspired with Yahya Khan to change their position, refusing to hand over power to Sheikh Mujib, which triggered Liberation war.
With the clarion call of the founder-president of Bangladesh, ‘Bangabandhu’ Sheikh Mujibur Rahaman to his countrymen on March 7, 1971, to come out for independence of Bangladesh as a separate country in a mass meeting at Dhaka’s Romna Maidan and launch a fight against Pakistani army’s barbaric crackdown on civilians in Bangladesh.
