Yadav on Thursday made overtures to BSP to support the SP-RLD alliance in Uttar Pradesh to “save the Constitution and democracy”. Yadav reached out to the Mayawati-led party while addressing a press conference in Bulandshahr, where he had gone to campaign for NCP candidate

When he was asked a question about Mayawati and her campaign, Yadav said, “We are all people with different colours. We have red, green, white… we would request even blue (BSP) to join. Ambedkrites should also come and support us,” he said. “If democrcy and the Constitution do not survive, what will happen to the rights of people?” he added.


Political analysts called Yadav’s appeal “an open invitation to Mayawati to join the SP-RLD alliance”. However, SP leaders remained tightlipped on the issue. To recall, in the 2019 general elections, Yadav had joined hands with Mayawati, once considered SP supremo Mulayam

’s arch rival. Mayawati and Akhilesh were nicknamed ‘Bua-Babua’ (aunt-nephew) by BJP.
