NEW DELHI: Trinamool Congress MPs Arjun Singh and Dibyendu Adhikari officially joined the BJP in Delhi on Friday, ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Dibyendu Adhikari, an MP and the younger sibling of the leader of the opposition Suvendu Adhikari, currently represents the Tamluk Lok Sabha constituency in the Purba Medinipur district.
Arjun Singh, MP for Barrackpore and a recent entrant to the Trinamool Congress also returned to the BJP fold. Arjun had expressed dissatisfaction with his party after being denied a party ticket for the Barrackpore Lok Sabha seat, which he currently holds. This was in contrast to him mentioning that he was still a “TMC soldier” even after not featuring on Trinamool’s candidate list, claiming that no one from the BJP had reached out to him.
This move by Singh and Adhikari follows the resignation of Tapas Roy from the party, an old-timer and sitting MLA of TMC, who recently switched allegiance to the BJP. Roy, upon resigning from the Assembly and relinquishing all party responsibilities, cited a lack of support from chief minister Mamata Banerjee and the TMC leadership during an investigation by the Directorate of Enforcement.
