NEW DELHI: Congress president Rahul Gandhi trained his guns at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the lynching of Rakbar Khan in

, calling it an instance of “New India” – a sarcastic reference to the aspirational goal espoused by the Prime Minister and a swipe at BJP being in office in Rajasthan.


Amid reports that Khan died because Rajasthan cops preferred to tend to cows instead of the injured victim, Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “Policemen in Alwar took three hours to get a dying Rakbar Khan, the victim of a lynch mob, to a hospital just 6 km away. Why? They took a tea-break en route. This is Modi’s brutal ‘New India’ where humanity is replaced with hatred and people are crushed and left to die.”

Rahul’s Monday tweet, blaming Modi for lynchings, came after Khan’s death was the major news headline and came up in Parliament too.

The Alwar incident came barely days after the Supreme Court called rising cases of lynchings around the country a matter of concern and asked the government to act.
