On this day 40 years ago, during the 40th National Football Championship for the Santosh Trophy, Goa edged past Punjab to become national champions for the first time

In a career spanning two decades (1978-1998), Camilo Gonsalves has lost count of the number of goals he has scored for clubs, state and country. He has had solo goals, waltzing past several defenders, scored long-rangers, volleys, those tap-ins too. But the one he remembers the most is the goal that he scored with his head in Madras, now Chennai.

It came exactly 40 years ago.
