Depending on the region and community one belongs to, there are unique festive treats. Now, diners too can get a taste of everything from duck roasts to Armenian cakes

Though he hasn’t been back home in Kerala for Christmas for a few years, Zachariah Jacob has fond memories of celebrations with family. The soaking of dry fruits in rum for the plum cake make would mark the beginning of the festive season, and duck was often the star of the family feast. “When we had a lot of relatives, we hired a local cook named Vasu Chettan who was a duck specialist,” he says. “While my cousins were busy carolling, I watched the master at work, making duck roast, karimeen and beef fry.” This year, the duck roast is part of a Christmas menu at Jacob’s restaurant Mahabelly in Delhi.
