There is nothing even remotely funny about prejudice cropping up in the classroom and students being profiled by those tasked with educating and enlightening them. The Manipal Institute of Technology in Udipi, Karnataka, where the recent incident took place has reportedly debarred the professor from taking classes till an inquiry is completed. The teacher reportedly said on hearing the student’s name: “Oh, you are like Kasab” (Ajmal Kasab was the sole surviving Pakistani gunman from the terror attack in Mumbai on 26/11/2008, who was convicted and hanged in 2012).
