HYDERABAD: Gujarati film “The Good Road” will be India’s nomination in the best foreign film category for the Oscars. After watching 22 films, a committee set up by the Film Federation of India selected the film, directed by debutant Gyan Correa to be sent as India’s nomination for the Academy Awards.
FFI deputy secretary Anindhya Das Gupta told The Times of India that in all the nominations received this time were 22 from different languages.
“The Good Road’ was produced by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC). Some Telugu films also threw in their hat in the ring to be considered for the nominations but they did not meet the grade that committee had in mind.
Last year also, the FFI watched the films in Hyderabad itself to select the Oscar nomination.
There were quite a few favourites to win the nomination but it was “The Good Road” which pleased the committee the most. There were films like “The Lunch box” and also “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag” in the fray but the Gujarati film made the grade. Even Kamal Haasan’s “Vishwaroopam” was a contender.
