JAIPUR: Devender Kumar, a boy from a Rajasthan village, fell in love with the art of cricket commentating on his first encounter in 1998. Perseverance and talent made Kumar, now 36, a commentator for international matches. Taking the microphone for BBC radio, his first job in this WC was India-Af match.
He was all of 11, the year was 1998, when he first heard cricket commentary in English.
But boys from his kind of places - he is from a back-of-the-beyond village called Chatarpura in Jodhpur district - don't end up being English cricket commentators, never mind that Devender Kumar fell in love with the art of commentating on his first encounter.
