Telangana backward classes panel demands inclusion of 40 castes in Centre’s OBC list

HYDERABAD: The Telangana State Commission for Backward Classes on Monday urged the National Commission for Backward Classes (

NCBC

) to write to the central government to conduct caste-wise census of backward classes, along with the general census. It also demanded inclusion of 40 castes of Telangana in the Centre's list of Other Backward Classes (OBCs).

During a meeting with NCBC chairman Bhagwanlal Shaini in New Delhi, Telangana backward classes commission chairman Krishna Mohan Rao Vakulabharanam told him that the OBCs in the country had high hopes on the national commission that it will prevail upon the Narendra Modi-government to conduct caste-wise census.

He also urged the NCBC chairman to make public the statistics collected as part of Socio Economic and Caste Census held earlier.

Taking up the cause of 40 backward classes from Telangana, which are deprived of reservations, Rao submitted the detailed technical information on them to NCBC chairman Shaini and requested him to include them in the Centre’s

OBC

reservation list.

He informed Shaini that that the 40 castes are already included in the list of backward classes quota in Telangana.

Krishna Mohan Rao also thanked the NCBC chairman for conducting a hearing to include them in the OBC list from December 22 to December 24.
