Swati Maliwal assault case: AAP MP alleges CCTV tampering at Delhi CM's residence

NEW DELHI: In a new twist to the Swati Maliwal assault case, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP has alleged that the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed at Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's residence were being tampered with.

The former chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) took to social media platform X on Friday evening to claim that attempts were being made to tamper with the CCTV footage.

Swati Maliwal's statement came amidst an ongoing investigation into the alleged assault on her. Earlier, a team of Delhi Police, accompanied by forensic officials, conducted a scene recreation at the CM's residence, where Maliwal was also present as part of the probe.

The incident has escalated further with an aide of CM Kejriwal, Bibhav Kumar, filing a complaint against Maliwal, accusing her of unauthorized entry, verbal abuse, and threats. Kumar also alleged possible involvement of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the matter, prompting authorities to investigate Maliwal's purported ties with BJP leaders.

This development follows AAP's release of a video clip purportedly showing Maliwal in an argument with security personnel at the CM's residence on the day of the alleged assault. AAP's stance on the matter has shifted, with the party now contradicting its earlier support for Maliwal.

In response, Maliwal accused her own party of saving a "hitman" and engaging in her "character assassination." She criticized AAP's change in stance, highlighting her longstanding association with the party.

The case has taken legal dimensions, with Delhi Police filing an FIR against Bibhav Kumar and others based on Maliwal's complaint. The charges include attempt to commit culpable homicide, wrongful restraint, assault with intent to disrobe, criminal intimidation, and insult to the modesty of a woman.
